This blog offers hope and encouragement to families trapped in the chaos of addiction. I use that term to include all forms of substances or behaviors that have caused a loved one to lose control of their life.
I have walked the recovery road for eighteen years as my son has struggled with his drug addiction. I’ve met many mothers along that road who have lost all hope that their child will ever be whole and healthy.
Something I have learned over the last two years of my son’s recovery is “time takes time.” Recovery is definitely a “one day at a time” proposition. I used to talk in terms of “when you’ve been clean five years or ten years” but have come to realize that kind of expectation is unrealistic for my addict and probably yours too.
I invite you to take this recovery journey with me. There will be bumps and potholes along the way, but there are also some smooth places where restoration and recovery happen.
Blessings and hope for today.
